Call for CBI-EDOC 2025 Doctoral Consortium

Scope and Topics

The joined CBI 2025 and EDOC 2025 Doctoral Consortium aims to offer a supportive learning opportunity for doctoral students in the early stage of their research project, i.e., typically in their first or second year, to discuss their work in progress and to receive feedback and guidance from senior researchers and the audience. A panel of senior researchers will serve as mentors during the Doctoral Consortium sessions. In addition, the Doctoral Consortium offers opportunities to establish a social network with peers in CBI and EDOC conferences and to engage with some industry participants.

Doctoral students, typically in the middle of their research progress, are invited to submit a
paper presenting their work and participate in the dedicated sessions. The topics eligible for Doctoral Consortium submissions are the same as those of the CBI 2025 and EDOC 2025 conferences.

A submission to the Doctoral Consortium should clearly describe motivation, goals, expected results and the research approach taken. Participants will be expected to actively discuss and motivate their work by reading each other’s work before the Doctoral Consortium, giving a presentation at the Doctoral Consortium, debating, and listening to senior researchers’ feedback.

Author Guidelines

To participate at the Doctoral Consortium, students should submit papers that cover the following aspects of their PhD project (see important dates):

  • The context and goal of the research;
  • The scientific problem addressed and its relevance to the conference field. This problem must be justified or substantiated using literature review, observations from practice and case studies, and can be further refined in terms of research questions and/or hypotheses;
  • The overview of earlier works that have addressed the same or similar problems and explanations of why the problem is not yet solved (i.e. limitations, open issues controversies);
  • The research methodology followed to address the research problem;
  • The expected results and any result that has already been obtained so far;
  • A plan for the evaluation/validation of results.

Submissions must be written in English and authored by the PhD student only. The names of the supervisors should be mentioned in the Acknowledgments section after the conclusion and before the references.

Submission Process

Papers should be formatted according to the Springer LNCS/LNBIP conference proceedings template (for LaTeX and Word): Springer Guidelines. The maximum length of the paper should be eight pages, including references and appendices.

The submission must be made via EasyChair (you will be asked to select a track; please be careful to choose the “CBI-EDOC 2025 Doctoral Consortium” track): https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=cbiedoc2025

By submitting a Doctoral Consortium paper, doctoral students commit to registering and
attending the conference to present their research. Students accepted for the Doctoral Consortium and with no other participation in the conference that requires an author registration, will be not require to pay registration if volunteer to join the local organization to support the operations of the confeence.

Proceedings

Accepted doctoral consortium papers will be published in a Springer LNBIP post- proceedings volume, including publications from CBI 2025 and EDOC 2025 co-located
events.
